First Week of Events in Georgia

Summary of all the events that have been held in Georgia as part of the first week of the "Who Mkes the news?" Campaign:

16 February, 2006: First Presentation of the GMMP and the “Who Makes the News?” Report findings at the OSI national Women network Program office. Monitoring team, local journalists, women NGO activists participated in the event (Giorgia).

17 February, 2006: Work Meeting of Women's NGO Media Group members and experts from Estonia. Regarding local elections in Georgia (planned for the end of 2006), two members from the Women's NGO, Reet Laja and Leena Blum, took part in a Round Table about the planning of Media Group activities to prepare media support to women candidates (Giorgia).

18 February, 2006: Working Meeting with women leaders from 11 regions of Georgia. Participants planned different type of activities to the local elections in 2006. They also discussed about the cooperation between regional NGOs and journalists (Giorgia).

21 February, 2006: Radio journalists Seminar in the South Caucasus (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan) with Tskhinvali and Nagorny Karabakh conflict zones participants.

21 February, 20006: Sexism in the Parliament of Georgia. Press Conference organized by the Women NGO Initiative Group that considered the parliament discussion on the Domestic Violence draft law. Women's NGOs protested against some MPs' sexism language during Parliament hearings (Giorgia).

23 February, 2006: Business Lunch for the Women's NGOs Coalition's International Conference (scheduled for May, 2006). Participants: Organization Group members, experts partners from Estonia Reet Laja and Leena Blum. They planned the media support for the conference (Giorgia).

24 February, 2006: “Who Makes the News?” Campaign Weekly Meeting for young journalists at the Gender Media Caucasus Journalists' Association office. The GMMP and the Who Makes the News? Campaign key findings were presented and discussed among the participants (Giorgia).
