Solidarity message to Se Non Ora Quando Print Email

SNOQThe World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) on behalf of the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) network has expressed solidarity with Se Non Ora Quando (SNOQ) (if not now, when?), a feminist movement formed in Italy this year to reclaim dignity and respect for women.

Among other goals, SNOQ mobilizes around the issue of  the image and representation of women in the mass media. SNOQ’s success in mobilizing women across Italy has inspired the emergence of similar movements in other countries.

In a letter to the movement, WACC said SNOQ’s struggles on media representation of women resonate with the GMMP's vision for “gender-just media practice that upholds women’s dignity, for media that is less sexist and more fair, less gender-biased and more balanced.”

The most recent GMMP research published in 2010 found that underrepresentation of women was even more acute in Italian news media, in contrast to the European regional and the global averages.
